**** The Latest News From the Ward Family: Summer 2003 ****
Well what’s been happening to us? I have got into full swing with parish ministry. It all seemed strange at first; working at home and around the local area. But now I have settled and am into a pattern of visiting, funerals and pastoral visits. Worship is interesting from the other side of the pew, so to speak. I can’t take communion for another year, but there are lots of things for a deacon to do within the service other than concecrate the elements.
Vera is still working long hours and full days. It is even harder now as she has to co-ordinate bereavement care for two hospitals, quite a distance apart. Vera really enjoys this work but it is draining. The girls are on six weeks holiday and have attended a holiday club for some of it which they hate! Kerry (Diane’s daughter) has been staying with us for two weeks. She has looked after the children and has been on holiday, to Portland, with us.
We have just returned from a week in Portland. It was great, the hottest days on record (101F - on Tuesday). We stayed in a cottage which overlooked the cove and the cliffs - the views were great. We saw great sunsets across the sea and we actually swam in the Bristish sea - it was crystal clear, just like being at the Med. We visited Stonhenge and Salisbury Cathedral and had a relaxing, fun week. We got stuck in a major traffic jam on the way back and spent 3.5 hours getting along 3 miles of the motorway. The whole journey took 8 hours to do 200 miles. We had stopped for so long, at one point, we got out of the car and walked up and down and chatted to other drivers - all this on the fast lane of the M5. But even this didn’t spoil our week.
The Harley Davidson finally arrived (two weeks late). It is a gorgeous machine - it looks fantastic (with all that chrome), the engine sounds great and it just oozes attitude. I have spent a lot of time riding it, particularly in the good weather, and have nearly run it in (broken it in) - then I can open it up and make a real noise and turn even more heads.
Any way there are holiday and Harley pictures on the photos page.
Love and Prayers
